Development of a Laminated Broaching Tool Manufactured by Wire EDM, TAGUTI EDM Filters
A non-conventional laminated broaching tool manufactured by wire EDM is proposed in this work. A prototype laminated broach composed of flat steel sheets is constructed and the viability of laminated broaches is discussed on the basis of the machining performance of this prototype. Despite some apparent problems of rigidity, the laminated broach is seen to perform reasonably well. Potentialities of laminated broaches include reduction in manufacturing time and costs, in-house manufacturing and reduction of broach length. Being remarkably adaptable to automation, laminated broaches can easily produce complex broaching patterns. Moreover, they can be applied to small-batch production.
